Adolescent residential treatment centers are intended to educate as well as treat young people and adolescents who are finding it difficult to succeed in life or school and may benefit from a change of scenery. School performance should not be the primary reason for sending a child to an adolescent residential treatment center. Conventional wisdom says it's best if the child can live at home with their families. It may seem a bit drastic to remove a child from school for ADHD but remember these are extreme cases and one child cannot be allowed to disturb the entire class.

Most kids in adolescent residential treatment centers have behavior and/or psychological issues that are far worse than a case of ADHD. They may in fact ADHD but they also have more serious mental health issues that need to be addressed and fixed before they can be allowed back into a normal classroom environment. Accurately diagnosing the issue can be a challenge but an adolescent residential treatment center is often the best place to undergo diagnosis because of all the specialists and specialized equipment located in the center.
