Let's be honest. Acne is not attractive. And acne seems to favor teens. It's estimated that 9 out of 10 teenagers have suffered from acne at some point. It doesn't matter if you’re a boy or a girl, white or black, short or tall, fat or skinny. Acne plays no favorites and according to recent surveys, acne is among the biggest concerns of teenagers today. In extreme cases, acne can destroy self-esteem in fragile young psyches. But don't despair; there is hope in the form of teen acne treatment. It certainly can be depressing for a teenager to look in the mirror only to see on otherwise happy face dotted with a minefield of red bumps. But there's no need to suffer because today we know more about acne than ever before. It's best to stop acne with teen acne treatment from the beginning so as soon as a pimple appears be prepared to go on the offensive. And there are actually several steps teens can take proactively to prevent acne from ever rearing its ugly head. So why does acne prefer to afflict teens with pimples anyway? When teens reach puberty, their bodies start producing a hormone called androgen. Androgen is a male hormone that is essential to the healthy development of boys and girls. But since it is a male hormone, teen boys tend to suffer more severe acne breakouts than girls. Our bodies are covered with tiny little hairs that fight tightly into follicles or pores. Follicles produce sebum, an oily substance which uses the hair as a highway to travel up to the surface of your skin and form a protective layer to keep your skin smooth and soft. Androgen complicates matters by putting the sebum producing glands into mass production mode. The excess oil produced commonly combines with dead skin cells and acts as a cork trapping bacteria and oil. But your oil glands continue to produce more sebum and eventually the follicle swells. Naturally your body sends white blood cells to the rescue as a defense system. The end result of all this is zits. Acne is just a natural part of growing up caused by the bodies natural maturation process and since most of the maturation occurs during the teenage years of puberty that's when acne is most likely to strike. Teen acne treatment can help alleviate the occurrence of acne. Here is a common sense tips to be used as teen acne treatment: Keep your face clean. Acne is caused by the overproduction of oil. Clean your face regularly with a mild soap and warm water. Twice per day should be sufficient. Remember your skin needs a certain amount of sebum so don't follow the natural temptation to wash too frequently. That may be counterproductive as a teen acne treatment by actually resulting in your body producing even more sebum. In the event you do get acne which is more than likely, the best course of action is to let it heal naturally. Picking at it and popping the zits may lead to scarring you'll have to look at for the rest of your life. The bottom line is that acne is a fact of life for the majority of teens. Look at it as evidence that your body is functioning properly and you're growing up. And keep your face clean as a natural teen acne treatment. |
